The front ash lip on the Hi-Flame Alpha Inset is the cast iron strip fitted across the front of the firebox opening that catches ash and debris when the ash pan is removed or the door is opened. It prevents ash from spilling onto the hearth and also provides a finishing edge around the base of the door aperture. Replace it when bent, cracked, or corroded.

Although it looks like a purely cosmetic part, the ash lip also contributes to the structural closure at the base of the firebox. A damaged lip can allow cool air to be drawn in from below, disrupting the designed air-flow pattern and affecting combustion control.
