The back plate sits at the rear of the firebox on the Hi-Flame Graphite 8, shielding the stove body from direct radiant heat. Cast iron construction means it can handle the intense temperatures generated during normal use. Replace it if the plate has cracked or warped significantly, as exposed steel behind it will deteriorate quickly.
