The baffle plate, sometimes called the throat plate, sits above the fire and redirects hot gases across the firebox before they exit through the flue. This extends the time heat stays in the combustion chamber, improving efficiency. This version is designed specifically for the boiler variant of the Hamco Glendine stove and is made from heavy-duty cast iron.

A cracked or warped baffle plate allows combustion gases to bypass the heat exchange area and rush straight up the flue, reducing heat output and placing extra thermal stress on the flue liner.
