This is the rear fire brick for the Horse Flame Little Artemis stove. The rear brick sits at the back of the firebox and bears the most intense heat from the fire. It tends to be the first component to crack and should be replaced as soon as cracks expose the steel back panel behind it.

The rear fire brick reflects heat forward into the room and prevents the back panel from absorbing temperatures it was not designed to withstand. Replacing a single damaged rear brick is a straightforward job: remove the fire fence, lift the baffle, and the brick slides out without tools.
