The grate frame for the Hi-Flame Precision 5902 is the cast iron cradle that positions the inner grate and fuel bed within the firebox. It controls how air flows beneath the fire and how ash drops into the ashpan. This part takes a great deal of thermal stress and should be replaced once cracks or distortion are visible.

A structurally sound grate frame is essential for even air distribution across the fuel bed. When the frame cracks, air preferentially passes through the gap, causing uneven burning and making the stove difficult to control at low output settings.
