The lower baffle plate for the Hi-Flame Precision 5902 deflects rising combustion gases back through the firebox, improving heat retention and supporting secondary combustion. It is positioned beneath the upper baffle and takes the brunt of direct heat from the fire. Replacing a warped or cracked lower baffle is one of the most effective ways to restore lost efficiency on this stove.
